I've no idea if you're familiar with the name Jamie Delano. He's a comics writer responsible for some excellent post-Alan Moore Captain Britain work and much better known for Hellblazer and other Vertigo titles.

He's written an interesting article for the Ninth Art about writer's block, politics, responsibility and modern philosophy and p[politics. I hold very different political views from Delano, and find some of his comments almost objectionable. However, it raises some interesting points and I'd be fascinated to hear what other people think.

It beats articles about laptops scorching genitalia, anyway.

I, um, I got pissed off. And wrote about it over on my weblog, finding that I was running longer than I feel comfortable with here.

I was amused rather than pissed off. My major point of criticism would be the artificial deliniation of art, science, religion and politics as completely seperate entities. All four do, rather obviously, continually inform and develop each other.

The article is interesting in a detached way, as a potrait of a writer who is seriously burnt-out and looking for justifications for his frame of mind in all sorts of peculiar places. In short, it tells us much about Delano and very little about the world.

I thought It was a rather interesting article, although yes, the writer did make some false divisions with regards to religion, science etc. However, I feel that he has almost grasped on some ideas I have recently adopted myself: the idea that the writer has a moral debt to the audience to (a) tell the 'truth'as he or she sees it (bearing in mind even a fictional text can contain many philisophical truths).
And (b)that the world is on the brink of a monumental precipice, one that can only be avoided by spreading the virtues of freedom, tolerance to those who deserve it and perhaps all, rationality.
