LaRP reporting
Dec. 15th, 2003 10:45 amThe Guardian has used the release of the Return of the King as a springboard for a feature about LaRPing that manages to avoid the mocking tone such features often degenerate into. Indeed, it seems that the reporter actually enjoyed his day in Oblivion.
As more holes appear in my kitchen wall, and I continue to surf the net, I can't help but note that we're going through one of those periods where my friends aren't posting very much. The last few posts on my friends page have all been syndication feeds, some from my own blog. So, why have you all gone so quiet?

Invite Code Round-up
Dec. 15th, 2003 01:02 pmNow that LJ invite codes are a thing of the past and anyone can create their own journal, I thought it might be worth looking at how I've used my codes.
1.
semichrist Bobby Hitt, founder of Pen & Paper, asked for a code after he got a load of hits from my journal. The LJ's not been used since February, though.
2.
london_uk I created a community for London, as there didn't seem to be a decent one about. And promptly forgot about it. Oops.
3.
rickj Rick Jones (no, not that one). Well-used, readable journal.
4.
demonthefallen A community for White Wolf's Demon: the Fallen game. Intermittently trafficked.
5.
bobsbeenskatin I was contacted on AIM by somebody wanting a code. On a impulse, I gave it to him. He turned out to be the worst stereotypical teenager you can imagine. He eventually dumped the journal for one with a "kewler" name. An error.
6.
ninjarhino Sometime WW contributor and impressive internet imagineer Bryan Armor. A well-used journal.
7.
lornabear A journal created for the sole purpose of letting my wife read my friends-only posts.
8.
lostsorrow Another random contact, asking for a journal. More successful this time.
9.
darkages A community for WW's Dark Ages line of games. Off to a good start so far.
10.
entishlyernie4 Another random contact looking for a code. Time will tell...

London Community
Dec. 15th, 2003 01:52 pmHaving given it some thought, I've made
london_uk live as a general London community. Feel free to join, if you're in the city, and to pimp it in your own journals.
Ta,

Ta,
Looking for Syndication?
Dec. 15th, 2003 02:18 pmI just discovered a community for promoting syndicated feeds into LJ, called
syn_promo.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, a syndicated feed is where the content of another blog is fed straight into an LJ account, allowing to to read it in your friends page. For the technically minded, it takes the output from an RSS or XML file and turns it into journal entries.
Details here.
Examples include:
wolfspoor - Wolf Spoor, the White Wolf RPG gossip site
adamtinworth - One Man & His Blog, my serious blog
dilbert_feed - Dilbert cartoons
kingdomcomefeed - Kingdom Come, the Christian blog I write for
rockscissors - Rock Scissors Blog, the gaming blog I occasionally contribute to.
Oh, and I just found
peterdavidblog, a feed from the blog of Peter David, writer of many things.
