Me?

I'm fascinated by the suggestion by a gentleman (whom I note has dropped me from his LJ friends) that I defy "all attempts to categorize" me.

I thought I am pretty clear about who I am:

Someone with soft right views on some matters and soft-to-hard left views on others.
Someone who acknowledges that his opinions will change over time.
Someone who believes whole-heartedly in traditional institutions like marriage, but hopes desperately that events won't prove him wrong.
Someone who writes because he has to, but who is questioning what he should be writing.
Someone who is a Christian, but nowhere near as good a one as he'd like.
Someone who questions himself a lot, and likes to test his own opinions in discussions with others.

So, does this come across?

*smile* Sounds like how I'd describe myself, too. I think it's one of the reasons I always love reading your stuff.

It always has to me, but then I'm in much the same boat. I've noticed in myself that I don't always come across very well in my LJ entries. People who know me only through the journal think me far more rigid and, as I've been told, angry than I actually am in person. It's possible you have a similar "problem" in this regard, although I'm not sure that's true. You're a fairly precise writer, much more so than I, so it is a litle baffling that your actual position isn't obvious to your readers.

That's true.

Although I did have one that made me cry the other day.

Made a mistake on the ordering there, I think. :-)

Personally, I just thought you were an intelligent person who thinks for himself. The need to hold oneself to a set of views that allow you to identify with a category either is a personality disorder or guarentees that you'll develop one shortly.

You're one of the good guys. That's all that needs to be said.

Well, for what it's worth, you come across much like I expect, and I like that.

We disagree, but such is life.

There are some people in our common circle of acquaintances who cannot be trusted to engage in even-handed debate on various topics.

Hi, I've seen your journal on my "FriendsFriends" list.

I too have refused to be catagorised by a citizen of the American continent (Texan). Ended up being dropped by this user and most mutual friends. I refused to take sides in a Christian denomination, to which I do not belong and know very little about.

I would not take sides in a Calvinist Presbyterian church discussion. Why should I? I'm a Scandinavian Pentecostal.
