Why?

Why do I feel this strange obligation to research obscure facts to give a throw-away 1,000 words in some writing a veneer of historical accuracy?I mean, I could just make this shit up and have it done in a tiny fraction of the time. Never mind, it's done and sleep beckons.

Admittedly, I might use my second draft to crowbar in some research, but only if I'm bored.
