The last week has been stressful. I spent virtually every evening giving my flat a thorough spring clean and tidy. The reason? I gave it up to Lorna's family across the weekend just gone. The time had come for the mothers to meet.
I worked myself up into a bit of a state about it, to be honest. Lorna had to talk me down on Thursday night when I was about to work until 3am to make the flat pristine. I think I was just displacing general nervousness about the weekend though. Most of the people involved have been few an extremely difficult few years, many of which I can't share here. I wondered if those stresses would create too many problems. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
I wouldn't say that the mothers got on like a house on fire, but they seemed amiable enough around each other. I don't think we have a problem for the future there. Happily, myself, my best man and Lorna's brother (who is giving her away) now have our formal dress hire sorted, and Mum has her outfit for the wedding. Oh, and my flat sparkles with an unaccustomed cleanliness. With Lorna moving in in less than six weeks, it may never be able to slink back to its old self.
