Meet the new Auntie Beeb

My online news portal and time waster of choice, BBC News Online has just undergone a redesign. After a few hours of occasional use, it's growing on me. I admit that initially I didn't like it at all. It seemed to lack the clarity of the old version.

However, it does seem to convey more information at first glance and the key elements of navigation are still in place. It just seems slightly ironic than an online news site has moved over to a more newspaper-like design.

I always tend to use the low-bandwidth version, which has a rather, ah, bare layout. Amusingly, if you look in the URL of any BBC online story, you can see the low-bandwidth version if you find "/hi/" and change it to "/low/".
