Technology: Bluetooth
Aug. 24th, 2002 05:34 pmWell, I shelled out recently for the Bluetooth adaptor for my iBook. I don't know if you've ever used a laptop and a mobile phone together via infrared, but it's a painful, tortous process making sure that the two work together and that nothing gets in the way of the beam. It was, on the whole, more trouble than it's worth.
Bluetooth, on the other hand, rocks. You no longer need the line-of-sight to make the connection. You don't have to keep both the laptop and the phone in careful alignment. Indeed, you can actually pick up the laptop and wander around with it, just as long as you don't go out of Bluetooth's rather limited range.
The technology's virtue is in its simplicity, and that's why I like it. It has been a long time in coming, but based on this simple experimentation, I'm pretty sure that it will be successful. But what do I know?
