Incidentally, you're all rubbish for failing to suggest a single essay topic for me… :)

everything I thought of seemed mysteriously relevant to archaeology...hehe

My only knowledge of archeology comes from a combination of Mum's love of Time Team, and an interview I did with some people from Wessex Archeology for a magazine piece about the archeolgical investigations before new buildings are developed.

Hmmm. Possible. :)

How about "procrastination?" Or "uncomfortable silence?"

I'll take the former, I think...

As a write I expect nothing less.

Actually, maybe if you gave some of your own ideas as examples? I was a little put off by the scope and discounted everything that came to mind as not useful to you.

"As a writer." I'm on fire this morning.

How about "spontaneous combustion?"

Honestly?

I was put off by your description (even in speech marks) of your other blog as a "proper" blog.

Not enough to make me rant "how dare you" but enough to not bother clicking on the link.

I see tongue-in-cheek humour is still failing to communicate easily over the internet...

When you're asking people to click through, putting barriers in their way isn't a good idea - and tongue-in-cheek humour is never going to communicate in a text based medium.

Hey ho - this is a molehill rather than a mountain.

and tongue-in-cheek humour is never going to communicate in a text based medium.

I disagree with that strongly - it works very well in magazines, for instance.

I suspect its tendency to fail on the internet is to do with immediacy - people tend to read it faster than they do printed media, and thus "tells" as to the tone need to be flagged up more strongly.

Either that, or the internet really is just one big argument generating engine. :)

You could do an essay on how all of your online acquaintances are rubbish.

Honestly, it just seemed a bit broad to me, and I wasn't at all sure what you might have in mind.

I'll throw one out anyway, though. It relates to the political meme that we all posted yesterday. I noted you would be a "New Democrat" here in the States and recalled that you consider yourself something of a conservative. And I laughed to bluelang that for Britain you probably are. It might be a jumping off point for the problematic definitions of left/right, liberal/conservative, especially on a global medium such as the Internet. And if that sucks, well, at least I'm less rubbish for offering up something. ;)

I'm clearly on the soft right of British politics - which makes me a dangerous leftist extremist by US standards, certainly. :)

The broadness was intentional, more or less…

I've long ago given up and admitted that I am a Commie Pinko. There are times I truly believe I was born in the wrong country and the wrong era, but then I figure God must have some role for me here. If I ever figure that out ...
