Random thoughts of the day:

1. How many dungeons must a gnome raid through, before he can say he's a gnome?

2. Growl is a fantastic little thing that should be on all Macs. I'll post more on this later.

3. Skype is making me very happy, allowing me to get much more work done than I expected. Really, businesses should be thinking of switching over to systems like this. The ability to access my voicemail from any computer with Skype on it is just fabulous.

4. Off to the hospital again in 10 minutes. Heigh-ho.

What's the big advantage of growl? I put a version on my iBook last summer, but it's not been a stand-out app. Am I missing something (or have I been benefitting but not realising)?

Well, Growl is only really useful [IMO] if you use a lot of apps that do stuff over time, or apps that have events that will happen without you knowing about it otherwise.

for example, CyberDuck FTP will pop up a little growl notice when an upload/download finishes, which is nice if you have large transfers going on, and Adium can be set to popup growl notices when certain people log on/off IM, when someone logs onto/off Skype, etc.
