…why did no-one warn me that the Hellboy movie was so bad?

That's one Amazon DVD rental wasted.

Errm...because it wasn't?

(Or, rather, just to avoid presenting any more opinion as empirical, Hellboy actually was pretty well-received as a comic adaptation. I'd not read any of the comics when I saw it, but I have since, and I thought it was a pretty good interpretation. Could've done without the POV character being quite so bland, but eh.)

Yes, but from a cinematic perspective, the pacing was terrible, the cast all seemed to be acting in different movies and it was visually predictable.

Movies don't get a "get out of jail free" card just because they're comic adaptations.

Agreed on all points. And you didn't even mention the "talking to the kid on the rooftop" scene, which was just painful, or the dramatic crutch of the new, normal agent.
