Today, they wiped the World of Warcraft Europe Final Beta servers in preperation for the launch on Friday. It was as if thousands of voices cried out in horror and were logged out...

To mark the occasion, the last few hours were marked the Day of Judgement. Demons assaulted the main cities and lands were invaded by the opposing forces. Ermonsude, my level 13 Tauren druid joined a large raid in Crossroads in the Barrens, and spent the last few hours of his existence fighting off the treacherous Alliance.

In best [livejournal.com profile] bruceb tradition, pictures follow:

Demons in Thunderbluff

The ghost of Ermonsude inspects the Level 500 (!) demons that block the Thunderbluff lifts and lead to his spectral state

The futility of MMoRPG life

Ermonsude contemplates the futility of life, knowing that his demise is just over an hour away. Meanwhile, people fly to Thunderbluff to see the demons...

The futility of MMoRPG life

Minutes from the end, Ermonsude has joined a vast raid, dealing with the swarm of Alliance scum pouting into Horde lands. Today is a good day to be server wiped...

Spent much of the day feeling very grotty. This cheered me up. :)

Would you all stop tempting me, please?

Have you heard about the way you can do all your levelling through plot-driven quests? :-)

Damn, I didn't know you were playing WOW. I'd have said "hi" with my Night Elf (okay, probably via a poisoned pointy blade given my occupation but hey). I didn't realize they were going to wipe quite so early this evening otherwise I'd have delayed the writing and played as the World Tree came crashing down round my pointy ears. Instead, I went to log on 15 minutes ago and found that everything had been deleted two hours earlier. Wagh!

Anyway, here's looking forward to the release version - something I can play on my PC or the Mac (even possible on Starbucks' WiFi as I found on Saturday) though not until I finish up the current project in a week or two.

We're getting a guild together with a load of people you've met, playing Alliance. Drop me an e-mail if you're interested.

Count me in. I'll drop you a line shortly; it'll be good to game with people I know (never really had the chance when I played SWG regularly) and who are in the same timezone. WOW seems very popular - I wonder if it will last though.

Geeze, when the beta for MacEQ happened, we just hung around chatting (well, I got my tradeskill-quest drum) until we were disconnected.

I'm not sure I'd have liked to see everything trashed, though. It would have been traumatic.

So, can the European lot use the US servers, or only EU servers, or...?

(Hope this doesn't doublepost. There was an error...)

Last night was amazing fun; there was some really good, apocalyptic roleplaying going on in places. "Let's show them how the Horde dies" from the raid leader as we swarmed a bunch of high-level Alliance types minutes before server wipe was a favourite. Brought a small tear to my eye. :)

I actually tried MacEQ for a while, once I could get hold of a copy through the .Mac renewal promoation (it was never released in Europe), but found that everybody was so high level by then that I didn't see a single other player for days on end.

At the moment, EU players will be restricted to the EU servers (hosted in Frankfurt and Paris, fact fans!), but they have plans to allow us to play on your servers and vice versa further down the line.

Level 13? Just wait, m'boy. You'll be back in time at all, seeing familiar faces and remembering when the Delete key of the Gods almost wiped your characters from the Mainframe of life : )
