Like [livejournal.com profile] maliszew, I've found myself more and more attracted to classic fantasy gaming of late. I've been playing Neverwinter Nights, reading fantasy novels, starting to learn the D20 system and even poking around on the Mac version of Everquest. I've been in the horror-focused environs of the WoD for a good long while now, and it might be time to change the scenery a little bit.

For the first time in 18 months, I feel like running a game again.

On a related note, various changes in my professional life have led me to reconsider my slow departure from freelance writing. I've taken on some work for Werewolf: the Forsaken, my first direct work for the line since the core book, as a dry run to see if it's still enjoyable for me.

Of course, this is not a good time to be hunting freelance work. The D20 bubble has imploded, it seems, and with the dramatic decrease in WoD output from WW work opportunities seem to be slimmer than ever. I've seen some well-known names hunting work of late. On a personal level, three of the four developers at WW I've done the most work for — [livejournal.com profile] lighthorse76, [livejournal.com profile] innocent_man and Ken Cliffe — have left or are about to leave the company.

That may not be a bad thing. I've had a good five year run with the WoD, versions one and two, and while I'd like to continue contributing to WtF, which is an excellent game, I have some other stuff I'd like to do too.

Wish me luck…

Ken's leaving too? I hadn't heard that.

Blimey.

Well, I presume so. Justin's already announced that he's taking over Ken's job as head of E&D.

I assumed Ken was moving into a new role, rather than leaving altogether. Not for any reason, just because... well, you can't have White Wolf without Ken.
