After some weekend discussion and a lot of thought, I've decided that I won't be posting my political thoughts in my Livejournal anymore. There are too many people around who have too much invested in their own political viewpoints and who take intrusion of varying views into their friends page personally. I can see why. By its very name "friends" implies a warm, safe protected space. LJ friends pages, in effect a form of syndication aggregation, aren't that environment, but on the other hand, I don't want to thrust unwanted views in front of people who don't want to see 'em.

People who want to keep reading political stuff from me can go here, add atomtinworth as a friend, or add this feed to their RSS reader.

This space will be reserved for general life chit-chat.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I know the point you're making. I've often thought about this too, and have made political posts friends-only at times, because landing in such an entry from a random google search can give a bad impression.

Still, I try to write what I think and believe and not just appeal to the peanut gallery. I understand why you're doing what you're doing though.
