Step 1: Open your MP3 player.
Step 2: Put all of your music on random.
Step 3: Write down the first ten songs it plays, no matter how embarrassing

Random playing in iTunes:

Eminem - 8 Mile - 8 Mile
Lorna's to blame for me having this, but I've come to really enjoy it myself. Yeah, me, middle class, middle aged, private school white boy, listening to rap. Embarrassing, huh?

Salisbury Cathedral Choir - Come My Way - King of Glory: Evensong from Salisbury
iTunes chooses to reveal my God-bothering tendencies near the start of this exercise. Still, I love sacred and choral music, and juxtaposing this with the previous track suggests that my iMac has a sense of humour.

Kylie Minogue - Butterfly - Light Years
Weak track from a so-so album by the pop poppet. Meh. Bought this one cheap in Woolies in Lewisham, as I recall.

The Moody Blues - White Christmas - December
Oh, dear. A rather mysterious Christmas present from my wife this one. Cheese-tastic! Uh, without the "-tastic!". This is aural evil.

Fiona Apple - Paper Bag - When The Pawn...
OK, we're on the up again. Late 90s oddness from the Kate Bush wannabe who didn't realise that that role was already filled by Tori Amos.

Sinfonia of London Orchestra - Final Confrontation - Batman
Danny Elfman. You can't beat a good bit of Danny Elfman, especially on the score of a Tim Burton movie. Must play my Oingo Biongo tracks later.

Boney M. - Voodoonight - Nightflight To Venus
One of the sounds of my childhood. I'm happy to wallow in nostalgia by listening to this stuff. Mmmm.

Carlos Gardel - Tomo Y Obligo - Absolute Best: Carlos Gardel
It's a tango. One you can dance to. Lorna and I take tango lessons. Ergo...

Izzy - Signore Ascolta - Ascolta
Classic Lite. Good writing music this. It soothes and focuses without actually significantly intruding into your cerebral cortex.

Single Gun Theory - From A Million Miles - Due South - Volume 2
Another one from my soundtrack collection. A rather bland track this one, from a real curate's egg of an album. Mind you, that's true of so many compilation soundtrack albums. Yes, I have a lot of them.

Here ends this odd tour through my musical tastes.

Single Gun Therory - From A Million Miles - Due South - Volume 2

My first reaction when I saw you were listening to me was "Ohmigod! Someone other than me who listens to Single Gun Theory!"

From a Million Miles is no where near their best stuff, unfortunately. It's from their first album, and I pretty much prefer every track on their second album (Flow, River of my Soul) to their first. It's a similar style, but I find Flow somehow richer and more interesting.

But I would suspect that it's not everyone's cup of tea...
