The FedEx fairy has been and gone and left me three copies of the Vampire Player's Guide.

How is it? Well, the graphic design lack something. It looks like great chunks of text with very little to distinguish them. A few more pictures wouldn't have gone amiss, too. The text itself, on the other hand, feels like damn good stuff. It's got a nice "advice from more experience players over a pint down the pub" feel to it, and that has to be a good thing.

What's it got in it? Character templates, discipline usage tips?

Nothing as specific as that, although there is at least one essay on disciplines. It's more just an agglomeration of excellent role-playing advice, specific to the game.

Flipping through it in the store, nothing jumped out at me and said "you must buy me", and so I didn't.

I dunno, this seems like an odd time to come out w/ a player's guide for Vampire.

The book is better than it looks. It really sums up a decade's experience of running Vampire in one book. It's the accumulated wisdom of the ages, acting as a capstone to the published history of the game, and informing the numerous chronicle that will continue anyway.

Fair enough.

I'm curious as to how it's going to sell, both with the odd timing and the lack of crunchy bits. Seems to me the trenchcoat and katana set will be put off by the lack of new powers, and us old hat types will think we've soaked in all the advice and wisdom already.

As it is things like Red Sign rank much higher on my list of books to spend money on, not to mention stuff like the Monsternomicon and 50 Fathoms.

Not trying to slag on your work or anything though. Chances are one day I'll end up picking it up, and adding it to the giant shelf of Vampire books, and then I'll put a reply saying "hey, that essay rocked!" or "you're a crackhead, that essay blew!"

Incidently, did you do anything for the remaining Demon books?

Oh, yes. I did the Slayers chapter for Houses of the Fallen.

Sweet.

Our Demon game's on hold at the moment, the plan is to do one last big session on Halloween and wrap everything up. But one day, after ToJ and HotF come out, I plan on running another Demon chronicle. (But then, I also plan on running an Orpheus game, and Werewolf, and Kindred of the East, and about a half dozen Savage Worlds games, and my buddy wants to run d6 Star Wars, and my other buddy wants to run Spycraft or Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom, and we're still at the begining of this 1000 year Vampire game, and I'm starting a Savage Worlds game up once we wrap up Demon..... But one day, I'll run Demon again. Hoo yeah.)

But anyways.
