Bored of the US of A
Mar. 8th, 2004 04:47 pmI hate to say it, oh Americans, but I'm getting real tired of reading blog after blog obsessing over the presidential elections. I'm tired of watching right-wing homophobes and left-wing theophobes bashing each other around through every medium they can find over the issue of gay marriage. I'm tired of reading critiques of TV shows that might never make it to these shores, and the fall of celebrities that mean nothing to the British public.
And you know what? None of this is your fault, dear American bloggers. It's good and right and proper that significant issues are debated as widely as possible and it was probably inevitable that the blog world would be US-dominated.
I'm hungering for something different, though. I want to read about British politics and British media. I want to back away from the American domination of the web, and interact with more people who live near me and have to deal with the same day to day issues I do. Time for me to find more British writers to pay attention to, I think.
