Back from the Vortex
Jan. 15th, 2004 05:01 pmThe numerous Dr Who fans who read this journal will be delighted to hear that a missing episode has resurfaced.
Back in the last 60s, the BBC wiped many of its archive tapes and re-used them, on the basis that TV was essentially an ephemeral medium and that what was coming next was more interesting to people than what they'd already seen.
In retrospect, this seems like a gross act of cultural vandalism and a financial disaster in this age of DVD releases. Still, lost episodes of several shows find their way slowly back to the archives from a variety of sources. Personally, I find Dr Who very hard to watch now. I don't think it's aged well. Many people will be pleased by a glimpse at the Daleks' Masterplan, though.
