A thought-provoking little meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] ladyjestyr.

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
I got married.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember making any, and I will probably not bother this year either.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yup. Lizzie gave birth to her and Karl's child, Zoe. Karl's been a friend since university and Lizzie since she hooked up with him. Catherine, another friend from university, also gave birth to a daughter, Alice.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandma.

5. What countries did you visit?
Spain and the Netherlands, both on work trips.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
More free time. I've been stretched to the limit this year.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 12th, when I got married.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I got married. After that? Editing the first issue of GRID.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I'm struggling with this one, actually. It may well be taking Lorna with me on a business trip to Barcelona. We didn't really think through how it would work and the whole personal side of the trip was a bit of a disaster.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing too serious. Certainly nothing involving a doctor.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Our honeymoon.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Everybody who helped out at the wedding, but my best men, Andy and Mark in particular.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The vast majority of the British public under 35, who engaged with politics for the first time in their self-centred little lives and turned a serious debate about a war into a juvenile little slanging match.

14. Where did most of your money go?
The wedding, the honeymoon, supporting Lorna through the latter stages of her PhD.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The honeymoon...

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
Face the Music and Dance
(We danced our first dance to it)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Happier.
Older or wiser? Older.
Thinner or fatter? Thinner.
Richer or poorer? Poorer, but about to get richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Having sex.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Running hard to stand still.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my in-laws. Wish me luck...

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Nope. Just got married to the woman I love. :-)

23. How many one-night stands?
None. I've never had a one-night stand, thankfully, although I came very close a few times.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I watched very, very little TV this year. Grumpy Old Men strikes me as the most enjoyable, a show in which middle-aged celebrities bitched about life in general.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. I'm a Christian. I do my best not to hate anyone.

26. What was the best book you read?
Lorna Doone. An oldie, but a goodie.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Sacred choral music.

28. What did you want and get?
To get married and laid. Managed to do both in the same day. :)

29. What did you want and not get?
To be treated well by a certain regular freelance employer. Certain things have happened in the last few months which have displeased me somewhat. No, I can't disclose exactly what. However, people like [livejournal.com profile] innocent_man and [livejournal.com profile] lighthorse76 are exempt from this, because they're both great blokes.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
ARRRR!
(That'd be Pirates of the Caribbean. :))

Yes, exactly what [livejournal.com profile] ladyjestyr said. She was right.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went out for pizza and a movie with Lorna and Nicola. I was 32.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
The printers getting the cover of GRID right. Useless b******s.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Growing up. I finally ditched the last few t-shirts and pairs of trainers and accepted that I look better in shirts and shoes.

34. What kept you sane?
Lorna.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Nicole Kidman, probably. Maybe Miranda Otto. I dunno. I don't really fancy celebrities, per se.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Tony Blair's growing disdain for the electorate and his lies around the Iraq dossier.

37. Who did you miss?
My late father. His absence from our wedding was keenly felt by all the family.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Possibly my best man's friend, Jo. She was an invaluable help at the wedding.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
Weddings are all about your family and friends, not the couple themselves. Also, they are more expensive than you expect.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
One for the morning glory, two for the evening dew, three for the man that stands his round and four for the love of you, my girl, four for the love of you.
