The city on the sea
May. 23rd, 2003 04:15 pmI´m in the third day of a brief excursion in Barcelona for work, on which I´ve smuggled Lorna. We´re here for a few days either side of the conefrence I´m covering for the mag and our rolling news site on the internet.
What a lovely city this is. It´s really disheartening to see the things this city is getting right that London is getting so very, very wrong. The concept of neighbourhood, the committment of the government to making regeneration work, the pride of people in their environement and the generally good public services almost make me ashamed to be British.
The people from Barcelona who are at this conference seem very, very proud of their city. I can´t say I blame them.
And now, I return to a dark, underground conference venue while Lorna is on the beach. Maybe I shouldn´t have brought her after all.
