Five to Fly

1. As a child, who was your favourite superhero/heroine? Why?

Captain Britain. He just rocked. he had this whole blonde hair, slightly uptight geeky thing going on, as did I. So, I suppose, it was complete wish fulfilment.

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?

The original Star Wars landspeeder for the action figures. I even saved up for the damn thing, but Dad talked me out of buying it. I still regret letting him talk me round.

3. What’s the furthest from home you’ve been?

New York. I went there on business a couple of years ago.

4. What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t yet?

How to dance tango really, really well. Another 20 years to go...

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

Writing, writing, writing, for exactly the same reason as ladyjestyr

Death and mourning

It may be because I’m writing about death, but I can’t help having an odd reaction to this. In the time since I found out that it happened, far more than seven people will have died on the roads, have died of cancer or have been killed by other human beings. Public death and public mourning are curious beasts, sometimes out of scale with the everyday tragedies that happen all around us.

Yes, I’ll pray for the victims and their families. Of course I will. I will also be remembering all the other people who have been tragically and perhaps unexpectedly bereaved today, as well.
