(no subject)

It transpires that some bloke called Andrew Matthew John Tinworth is marrying Lorna Elizabeth Winifred Ebersole in 11 weeks. This was grounds for Mary Excel, the widow of the village shopkeeper, to pipe up and say that she objected to the idea because, as far as she was aware, the name of Miss Ebersole's intended was "Adam". There then followed a degree of consternation amongst the nine-strong congregation. Still, the confusion was resolved quickly enough, and I'll be back in Suffolk in a couple of weeks to hear the last reading of the banns. Thankfully it won't be the 9.30 Eucharist service, which is something of a bind for even the most devoted Christian on a Sunday morning. The early hour and the short, formulaic service with nary a hymn in sight explains the small congregation to me, at least. Without Lorna, Mum and I, it would have been just six of them.

This is probably the cue for [livejournal.com profile] maliszew to make some cutting remark about Anglican congregations. :) I don't care. We were back in time for coffee and The Archers. Bliss.

Oh, he will tommorow. The pope has forbid everyone from using computers on Sundays.

So the padre got your name wrong? How delightful!

What's the congregation made up of for a 9:30 mass, then?

Actually, I'm very pleased the banns are still read at all. It's a practice that's fallen into disfavor in too much of Christendom.

Again, Adam, many congratulations. Marriage is a wonderful blessing and you'll enjoy it more than you can realize now.

So Adam isn't your real name?

No, Adam is my real name. The Rev Andrew Dotchin seems to have got his name confused with mine. While Andrew is a fine name, it's not my name. :)
