I suspect I'm a little bit more geeky than you, although perhaps not, since I don't read comics much (every now and again), but like you, most genre fiction leaves me cold. The same is true of gaming material, honestly, which is why I don't have a lot of interest in writing for most games these days. It's a shame, because I really enjoy playing RPGs, but very few of them actually excite me much, never mind impress me. I guess I'm a bit of a snob too.
