He's back and it's about time…

The second episode of the new Doctor Who made it very clear we're dealing with a series that has more of an over-arching plot than any in the past. Firstly, we get more development of the relationship between the Doctor and Rose and then, well…

So, the second episode makes it clear that a significant amount of backstory has taken place between the classic series and this one.

Gallifrey is gone. Destroyed in a war that the Time Lords lost, reduced to a cinder in space "before its time". The Doctor is the last Time Lord.

Is this all something to do with the Shadow War mentioned in the first episode? The one that destroyed the Nestene Consciousness's homeworld?

Only a week until we (possibly) find out more…

A Christmas special and a second series are now confirmed, and there's growing evidence that Ecclestone's departure was planned from the start and is plot-driven…

Hmm. That'd be nicer than him getting back from weeks of publicity junkets and chat show appearances and thinking "aaargh! must get out!"

Shame, though. He's great.
